About the Program
The Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) degree is at the cutting edge of Health Informatics, an emergent field at the intersection of information, people and process within healthcare organizations. This degree, offered online, will prepare students to enter this fascinating field with a breadth and depth of knowledge and skill necessary to excel as Health Informatics professionals.
Our mission is to provide potential and current healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge and skill in Health, Information Science & Technology, and Social & Behavioral Science, necessary to transform data into knowledge to empower healthcare providers to make informed medical decisions, enhance outcomes, advance medical research, empower patients and enrich society.
Health Informatics is the interdisciplinary field that studies and pursues effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem solving and decision-making, motivated by efforts to improve human health (AMIA.org). Health Informatics is changing the practice and delivery of healthcare by providing technology-enriched solutions to enhance medical decision-making within the healthcare system.
Health Informatics is not solely a technical discipline but focuses on the relationship between technology and its use in real-world healthcare settings. Solutions are derived in context, taking into account the social, cultural and organizational settings in which computing and information technology can facilitate healthcare.
